Zetane Launches Free Software Platform to Facilitate Collaboration and Accelerate Adoption of AI in Industry

[Montreal, Canada; December 17, 2020] Experts in applied machine learning will gain new means to share their projects within their AI teams and better collaborate with professionals external to the artificial intelligence (AI) sector. The Montreal-based technology company, Zetane Systems, released today the Zetane Viewer. Containing a suite of digital tools to display, inspect and share datasets and complex machine learning models, the software platform is of benefit to professionals with and without expertise in AI.

This latest release is a derivation of the company’s primary software product, the Zetane Engine. Made for practitioners in machine learning and data science, the software Engine provides a 3D digital work environment to streamline the production of AI solutions in industrial operations. The complementary Viewer provides improved means for diverse teams in industry to collaborate on applied machine learning projects; it focuses on abilities to share, visualize and annotate data, machine learning algorithms and algorithmic outputs without the need to manipulate computer code. Now available free of charge on the company’s website, the Viewer will forever remain freely available to anyone regardless if they use the platform with or without purchasing a software license for the Engine.

The Viewer serves to open up a whole new world to discover within the internal workings of algorithms, eliminating the industry’s ‘’black-box” problem forever,” said the CTO and co-founder of Zetane, Patrick St-Amant.

Showing the inner wonders of popular machine learning models
For the launch, the company dedicated the Viewer to the ONNX community project, an initiative from the open-source innovation organization, the Linux Foundation AI. ONNX community members — which includes Zetane and leading tech corporations of the likes of IBM, Microsoft and Amazon — aim to establish global industry standards in AI so technology products made by different manufacturers are compatible. This initiative developed standard representations of popular deep learning models used in industry, known as the ONNX Model Zoo (which includes the AlexNet and ResNet models used in computer vision applications, for instance). At its release, the Zetane Viewer will provide unprecedented access to visuals of the internal components of these artificial neural networks, ushering in new capabilities to safety-audit and understand AI technology in use today.

Visuals as a common language
The need for a visual alternative to abstract representations of AI came to light from the company’s experience with implementing AI in diverse industries and from interviewing over 200 AI specialists in academia and the private sector. Intuitive displays provided the universal language needed to enable domain experts with little understanding of machine learning to input their expertise and provide feedback to AI experts. These visual features should also be of benefit outside the private sector, where the Viewer could assist academic researchers with teaching the next generation of machine learning specialists about the internal workings of complex artificial neural networks.
