Sevket Sahintas new photographer at Gruppe28

Sevket Sahintas is working in Istanbul as a taxi driver since 1988. During his night shift he saw people living in the streets in terrible conditions, shivering and trying to sleep in cold weather. In 2005 he bought a camera to record their lives and took their pictures in order to do something for them. His pictures showing the other nightlife of Istanbul: people taking drugs, garbage collectors, travestites, women earning their lives with prostitution; shortly people struggling for their lives were now subjects of his frames. The works of Sevket Sahintas generally reflected the sharp contrast between the promised products and lifestyles of the billboards and the realities of homeless people. Sevket Sahintas published his works in several national and international magazines, exhibitions and television reportage. With Sevket Sahintas Gruppe28 further widens the national and international pool of photographers committed to high quality documentary photography.
