It has been estimated that there are approximately 26 million cases of heart failure The classic symptoms of heart failure like fatigue, breathlessness, and ankle oedema are often attributed to less severe problems worldwide [1]. This does not account for the cases of heart failure that are undiagnosed (an estimated 12 million [2]) or misdiagnosed and, therefore, an accurate understanding of the global burden of heart failure remains unclear. Mortality rates for heart failure patients remain high with 17% to 45% of deaths occurring within the first year of diagnosis—with the majority of deaths occurring within five years of admission (45-60% reported deaths in five years) and rehospitalization rate is over 50%, making diagnosis and setting the patient on the care pathway, essential. Heart Failure is also the number one cause of hospitalization in the world [2]

Earlier detection of HF opens the possibility to test methods of preserving cardiac function and changing the natural history of disease onset. Central to diagnosing heart failure is the demonstration of underlying structural and/or functional cardiac abnormalities. Early detection also reduces the risk of hospitalization for heart failure in adults with type 2 diabetes and known cardiovascular disease or multiple cardiovascular risk factors (when the heart is weak and cannot pump enough blood to the rest of your body)

AI and expertise in Cardiology: Tricog’s breakthrough in Heart Failure screening

Over the last five years, Tricog has created a profound impact on healthcare services across the world. Our innovative solution is achieved by combining the best of Technology, Artificial Intelligence, and Medical Expertise to preserve lives through the accurate and instant diagnosis of cardiac conditions, making early identification of HF easy and accessible to a broader patient population that are at high risk of developing heart failure. Currently, Tricog has established its presence in 12+ countries and served more than four million patients across modalities like ECG, Echo, TMT, Holter, ensuring patient safety, and saving lives. Tricog has developed and launched multiple solutions across the care continuum to provide timely detection, treatment, and post-treatment care for the patient.

Tricog aims to enable clinicians, nurses, and echocardiographers to provide timely, accurate, and affordable care. Today, due to the lack of affordability and the ability to perform an echocardiogram, a majority of clinicians do not have access to the life-saving technology of echocardiograms. Tricog is changing this by providing technologies that enable a better understanding of therapy, the ability to diagnose in short periods, and most importantly making it affordable to increase accessibility.

One of the recommendations from the WHO, is the accessibility of modalities of ECG and ECHO in primary healthcare facilities making early detection easier. The use of AI-enabled tools would make it easier to discover cardiovascular issues at a community level. This way, the patients diagnosed with such issues can be referred to well-equipped healthcare centres for better disease management [3] The risk of heart disease death, and stroke is more than twice as high in people with diabetes[4]. Therefore, it becomes imperative to detect such patients at an early stage and put them on the care pathway. Tricog achieves it by the use of AI-enabled technology, alongside a 24x7 in-house medical team to verify every report.

Cardiovascular disease requires multiple stakeholders at various locations to coordinate in order to provide better care to patients. Tricog's proprietary tools and analytics enable real-time communication with specialists/cardiologists in the moments that matter. Most importantly, the use of Tricog's solution allows clinicians to access standardized reporting and tools that facilitate better adherence to protocol, early detection, care coordination, and timely treatment of patients with a known cardiovascular disease, or multiple cardiovascular risk factors.

Tricog has enabled more than 2000 clinics, over 500 tertiary care hospitals, and over 50 ambulances, around 12 different countries, to save numerous lives. More than 9000 healthcare providers use the solution daily to provide care to the patients. Many of these healthcare providers are located in remotest parts of India or Kenya, as well as in the state of the art tertiary care hospitals in Malaysia or in China. Tricog's InstaEcho solution helps doctors with quick and accurate echocardiogram diagnosis, which indicates a high risk of heart failure. Reporting of echocardiograms is done round the clock, through Tricog's expert medical team aided by advanced AI algorithms. A detailed, digitally certified report is given within a few hours of the test that helps the physicians in identifying the patient's condition and taking the next steps. Consequently, it helps in reducing the treatment time and improving patient outcomes.

For Tricog, it has been an exciting and exceptional journey through which we have been able to positively impact millions of lives. Now, as we grow along the way to make it more impactful, we are working on critical initiatives and partnerships so that we can improve access to quality care. We are exhilarated to be on this path of using breakthrough technologies, the power of AI, and our cardiology expertise in cardiology, to continue to create a positive impact in patients’ lives.
