SAUDI MARKET FOR SKINCARE PRODUCTS SET TO GROW AT HEALTHY LEVELS TO TOTAL SAR 1.83 BILLION BY 2014

Women in Saudi Arabia are among the most beauty conscious in the Middle East region, fuelling rapid growth in the sale of beauty and personal care products. Recent industry research released by Euromonitor International, the official Knowledge Partners of Beautyworld Middle East, indicates that the market for skin care products in the Kingdom is set to grow at healthy rates to be worth SR 1.83 billion by 2014, with growth in 2010 having registered almost 10%. According to recent market research, Saudi market for sun protection products to reach SAR 174.4 Million by 2014.

Traditionally placing high value on their appearance, Saudi women are noted as being high spenders on beauty, skincare and hair care products. Mounting personal incomes are being increasingly utilised for sophisticated skincare routines and the purchase of premium skincare products. As a result, the Kingdom’s consumers are increasingly attracted to the growing stream of international beauty majors all eyeing larger slices of this lucrative market.

“Saudi women spend large amounts on beauty and skincare products and we are seeing this increase further in recent years which is driving growth in an already strong market,” said Ahmed Pauwels, Chief Executive Officer of Epoc Messe Frankfurt, organiser of the region’s foremost trade event for the beauty and well being industries. “This has led to a surge in international interest in the Saudi market, with increasing numbers of inquiries from potential exhibitors,” he added.

Skin whitening products and anti-ageing creams and lotions are the traditionally high selling items in the Saudi market and hair care is also a strong growth area. Additionally, 2010 saw a near 11% increase in the sale of hand care products.

“Saudi consumers are increasingly more particular about the products they buy,” said Mr. Van Tibolli, Chief Executive Officer of GK Hair. “It is important to convey to them that our products are made from the finest ingredients to gain wider acceptance,” Tibolli added.

“Saudi Arabia is a key market for our product line,” said Mr. Tommaso Corradini, Chief Operating Officer of Bioline. “We use Beautyworld Middle East as a testing ground to read market reaction to our new products and to gain an idea of the latest beauty trends.”

As well as international players entering the Saudi market, local companies are also strongly present.
