SMaBiT becomes first international partner of Science and Technology Park of Havana

1. SMaBiT becomes the first international partner of the Science and Technology Park of Havana (3CE STP).
2. The team of SMaBiT in Cuba will work from and grow within 3CE STP.
3. 3CE STP’s target is to create an environment to incubate synergies between science and economy to promote economic and social development.
4. The Science and Technology Park is located at the campus of Universidad de las Ciencias Informáticas (UCI) in Havana.

SMaBiT GmbH and 3CE STP today announced that they entered into an agreement to settle SMaBiT’s Research and Development activities in Cuba within the Science and Technology Park of UCI in Havana. SMaBiT develops embedded hardware for building automation, industrial gateways and security cameras as well as network platforms for the management of IoT devices and video analysis. The modern infrastructure, great working conditions and the close cooperation with the nearby university make 3CE STP the perfect place to further boost innovation and efficiency of SMaBiT’s R&D activities in Cuba.
Rafael Luis Torralbas, President of 3CE STP states “having already gained innovative Cuban partners from the ICT sector, both private and public, to join our Technology Park, the first agreement with a German company proves the attractiveness of our offer and makes us feel optimistic for the further development with SMaBiT, as well as for other new partnerships in the international arena.”
Francesca Dattila, Director for Marketing and Sales in SMaBiT highlights the importance of SMaBiT’s presence in Cuba “with our team in Cuba we have found the ideal mix between professionalism and creative ideas coming from a young and curious team in order to provide our customers in Europe, Israel and the Americas with highly reliable and in-house developed software and hardware solutions combining technological excellence with full respect of privacy and data protection aspects.”
Hector Rodriguez Figueredo, 3CE STP’s Vice- President is enthusiastic and explains that “the high level of the Cuban university system, the close cooperation between science and economy enabled by 3CE STP’s local and organisational vicinity to Havana’s Universidad de las Ciencas Informáticas are the ideal conditions to make the STP a success following its mantra of the 3C: creación, crecimiento, competividad which means foundation, growth, and competitiveness”.
Randy Gomez, team leader and ZigBee specialist at SMaBiT in Cuba adds “after months of working from home and video conferencing, I am really emotional that our team can finally join together in these new offices allowing hardware and software people to work in direct contact which is important when you are creating embedded devices.”
Peter Hoyer, Managing Director of SMaBiT, concludes “it is just great to see how our team in Cuba has grown over the past years. This success story has now reached a new level thanks to the cooperation with 3CE STP.
