Johansson Projects presents What To Do With Your Orphan: A Manual featuring Jennie Ottinger
Show runs May 10-June 16
Opening Reception: May 12, 5-7pm
Johansson Projects is contemporary art gallery that functions as a curatorial laboratory, creating exhibitions that pair established and internationally-recognized artists with up-and-coming locals. Its moss ceiling by Misako Inaoka and unique architecture allow for innovative exhibitions in a fully immersive viewing environment. With no show confined purely to gallery walls, it prompts viewers to actively engage with artists who explore the mysteries embedded in modernity often using unorthodox materials and methods. Johansson Projects is a locus for curators’ collectors, and artists to connect and engage in dialogue with the larger art community both regionally and nationally.

Megan Reed + Jennie Ottinger | Rabble-Rousers | May 27
In Rabble-Rousers, Megan Reed’s marching sculptures, watched by the disconcertingly unwholesome crowds in Jennie Ottinger’s paintings, together activate the gallery space into a kind of parade ground for resistance, rebellion, and/or collective merry-making. Through loud, chromatic palettes and vivid textures, both Reed and Ottinger create work that is tactile, vocal and slyly humorous. The viewer is invariably drawn into the rabble-rousing, tangled up into its web of discourse; urged to join
Johansson Projects presents Due By featuring Jennie Ottinger
In Due By, Jennie Ottinger crafts a canonical library stripped down to the barely-there essentials. There is a haunting affect to Ottinger's collection of newfangled classics; perhaps it is the quiet tick tock of our own mortality, urging us to read the greats before it is too late. To help us with our timely mission, the books' insides are cut out and replaced with far more entertaining summaries. Her humorous
