About Alain Raes
Alain joined SWIFT in 1990, after three years spent as an investment bank analyst at Citigroup Belgium and Fortis Singapore, with the mission to build a new business planning and analysis group. He then joined the SWIFT sales group in Paris and held sales management positions until he was promoted to the SWIFT Group Executive Committee in 2008 as Chief Executive, Europe Middle Africa. In this position he significantly developed SWIFT business by broadening the company’s presence in critical payments and securities market infrastructures such as SEPA, T2, T2S, CLS, Euroclear, and Clearstream. He also significantly developed SWIFT presence in Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. Alain relocated to Singapore in 2012 and extended his business remit to Asia Pacific.
Under his leadership, SWIFT business in Asia Pacific has grown by more than 130% with significant successes in India, with the creation of a joint venture with some of the leading Indian banks, in China, and in Australia with the creation of the first real time payment system supported by SWIFT. In 2019, Alain was promoted to Chief Business Development Officer. He is responsible for all client relationships and global business development at SWIFT.
