Broadcast studio in use

PG Stage has worked for over thirty years designing, supplying and installing performance facilities and equipment in venues across the UK.

Their most recent project, in association with LCC Lighting and Sony Broadcast, was based at Middlesex university who were in need of a flexible and dynamic television studio for their Film, Media and TV students to work in.

There were various demands to fulfil for this television studio. The first requirement was that it needed to maximise the floor space available, which was 150 Square metres. It also needed to allow for the quick and easy set-up and de-rig of studio lighting.

PG Stage used their team of professional technicians to design and produce technical drawings. These technical drawings were used to define a specification for the university and as a result PG Stage designed power distribution and DMX systems to fully meet the university’s needs.

PG Stage went on to install the electrical containment system, state of the art lighting grids, motorised hoists, pantographs and also designed, specified and commissioned bespoke touch-screen motorised hoist controls. This was important as it allowed the complex control system to take up minimal space. The systems were also easy to use and control, designed to restrict dynamic loading imposed by the movement of the hoists.

A second studio was also included in PG Stage’s project with the ambitious University. This second studio compromised of chromokey virtual studio facilities, a lighting grid, power and DMX distribution and a cyclorama track.

The studio has been built to the highest quality of design, equipment and technology and is set to provide the university with a full range of first class facilities for its students. Middlesex University Television Production course leader Roddy Gibson commented on the project,

“The studio will give students a much greater understanding of how real-life production facilities work, enhancing their prospects of a rewarding career in the creative media sector,”

Partner at PG Stage, Paul Holt, “PG Stage are delighted to have worked with Middlesex University Media Department to create a bespoke lighting system for their TV studio. The department had high aspirations for a high density, fully integrated and flexible lighting solution and we worked closely with them to ensure these needs were met. This Studio facility gives students a real insight into the tight production time scales associated with fast track studio productions, whilst allowing them the time to fully explore the creative elements of studio lighting.”

PG Stage continue to work with a range of universities, schools and venues in this country and oversees, designing supplying and installing stage lighting, sound systems, track systems, curtains and drapes, and audio visual systems to the highest specification. Their team is made up of highly qualified designers and field operatives who are committed to providing the very best service to clients.
