Ceramic Drivers for Higher Precision
The N-381 linear actuator with NEXACT® piezo stepping drive combines dynamic motion and high position resolution in compact design
The position is locked when not in operation, it does not drift or oscillate. The clamping force is 15 N. The drive does not have to be supplied with current in its target position and does not heat up. Furthermore, the drive principle of the piezo stepping motor enables very high resolution within one step cycle. In open-loop operation, the motions can be resolved to about one nanometer and lower. PI also offers controllers suitable for the linear actuator.
Well-known for the high quality of their products, PI is one of the leading players in the global market for precision positioning technology. PI has been developing and manufacturing standard and OEM products with piezo or motor drives for 40 years now. With four German factories and ten subsidiaries and sales offices abroad, the PI group is represented internationally.

Hexapod / SpaceFAB Parallel Precision Robotic Positioning Systems from PI
Auburn, MA, PI (Physik Instrumente) LP – a leading manufacturer of motion control systems for nano-automation — provides a complete line of highly accurate 6-axis robotic parallel positioners (Hexapod/SpaceFAB) for advanced applications in fields as diverse as bio/nano-technology, aerospace, medical technology and lasers/photonics. Parallel Robots: How do they Work? Hexapod parallel positioners differ from classical articulated / stacked multi-axis positioners where each actuator is connected to the other actuators / motion axes

2 mm Travel Range - 20 Milliseconds Settling Time: New Objective Scanner with Pi …
New microscopy methods, such as two-photon microscopy, make it possible to record 3D stacks with up to 1 mm depth in biological samples. For this they require high-performance drives for positioning the objectives. PI (Physik Instrumente) now developed the new N-725 PIFOC® objective scanner with piezo stepping drives especially for position-ing microscopy objectives. The N-725 provides travel ranges of up to 2 mm along the optical axis. At the same time
Small Size and High Resolution: New Miniature Stage is Only 24 mm Wide at a Reso …
Physik Instrumente (PI) has introduced the new LPS-24 series. At only 24 × 33 × 20 mm³, these new miniature positioning stages provide a travel range of 15 mm with nanometer-precision resolution. The LPS-24 stages fulfil important requirements for the positioning of optical or mechanical components or for the adjustment and manipulation of samples in application environments with a confined space. For the LPS-24 series, PI uses NEXACT® piezo stepping drives. These
Perfectly Aligned Precision
With the new N-664 linear positioning stage, PI (Physik Instrumente) has succeeded in developing a further groundbreaking piezo positioning system of the reference class. A NEXACT® piezo linear drive replaces the usual stepper or DC servo motor in the N-664, thus making a position resolution of far less than a nanometer possible. Aligned to it is the new PIOne optical linear encoder with a resolution of 0.5 nm, which allows for
Fast steps with nanometer precision
Piezo stepping drives from Physik Instrumente (PI) can be combined with a high-resolution linear encoder for nanometer accuracy over the complete scanning range – and are now also available for PIFOC focusing systems for microscope objectives. The new N-725 PIFOC scanner for microscope objectives with NEXACT piezo stepping drives provides travel ranges of up to one millimeter along the optical axis. At the same time the technology allows rapid positioning:
Fit for use in high vacuum
Positioning systems and linear actuators which operate on the basis of piezo ceramics are particularly suitable for use in high and ultra-high vacuum at pressures down to 10-10 hPa (mbar), because the motion is based on displacements in the crystal structure. Therefore no conventional mechanical elements such as shafts or gears are necessary and thus no maintenance or lubrication either. Neither is there a danger of an outgassing of the
Low-Cost Drive Electronics for Piezo Linear Drives
The compact NEXACT piezo stepping drives from Physik Instrumente (PI) push forward into a new performance class for linear drives: with high forces of 10 N, velocities of more than 10 mm/s, and at resolutions of a few nanometers they replace the typical stepper or DC servomotors in applications that depend on the combination of force and resolution on large travel ranges. The E-862 driver electronics is the ideal control
