Eastern European countries, dependent on Russian oil and gas supplies, plan to develop biogas plants at city dumpsters and waste water treatment facilities at the nearest future. Biogas technologies provide a waste-free recycling solution and strengthen countries’ independence from imported fuels. While projects in Bulgaria and Poland are still at planning stages, Slovakia already has a biogas facility at an agricultural farm in Kamenica nad Cirochou ready for a launch.

Kiev, Ukraine, March 20, 2012 -- Eastern European countries, dependent on Russian oil and gas supplies, plan to develop biogas plants at city dumpsters and waste water treatment facilities at the nearest future.

As local information agency “Focus” states, Bulgarian government is inclined to substitute 85% of resources used for heating of residential premises with biogas. Specific quotas will be provided for transit of bio-methane through the national gas distribution network, indicates “Focus,” it will also be sold at preferential rates.

According to information provided by “Renewable Energy World” Polish government will carry on an ambitious project of building 2500 biogas plants by 2020.

“Currently Poland utilizes about 2 percent of its potential to produce biogas energy from agricultural waste. This potential, however, can only be fully utilized if the industry can overcome substantial, and sadly mainly bureaucratic, barriers to investment,” – comments Jagoda Sumicka, Trade Policy analyst, Trade and Agriculture Directorate, OECD.

A Slovak company ALLFINE s.r.o. started a biogas plant construction project in 2011. As company’s CEO Robert Hajčákon indicates, after a lengthy search, “Zorg Biogas AG” was chosen as a contractor. Biogas plant has two digesters with 2900 m3 volume each. As planned, it will process 50 tons of silo and 11 tons of waste per day to produce 990 kW of electricity.
