Philly Esports Launches First Collegiate Esports League, Today thru October 31, Joining Forces with Apex Gaming PCS to Present The Philadelphia Aces League

Philadelphia, PA - October 1, 2020 - Philly Esports, founded to empower competitive gamers to pursue their dreams in esports, today launches their first intercollegiate competition, joining forces with Apex Gaming PCS to present the Philadelphia Aces League.

Competition in The Aces League will take place throughout October beginning tonight, featuring six colleges from Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The league includes esports teams from Arcadia University, Drexel University, Messiah University, Misericordia University, The College of New Jersey, and Widener University.

Matches will be held on Wednesday and Thursday nights, streamed on the Philly Esports Twitch Channel, and feature the popular esports game, Rocket League. Each competing team comprises three players, a total of 18 players from six colleges.

“College sports programs have been shut down due to the pandemic and social distancing, but esports continues to connect communities throughout the COVID-19 shutdowns,” noted Adam Nelson, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Philly Esports. “A great number of colleges have been investing in esports for the past few years, and our launch of the Philly Aces League now gives some of those colleges and participants the opportunity to show how good they are, and give the college esports programs marketing materials and results that they can use to grow esports on campus. We’re doing this now because it’s part of our mission to give esports athletes more opportunities to compete. Philadelphia is a growing center for esports, and we have built relationships over the past two years with a number of Philadelphia-area college esports programs, and this is our opportunity to work with our local partners to make esports even better on the collegiate level.”

The current schedule includes competitions in Rocket League play beginning at 7 p.m. Eastern Time every Wednesday and Thursday night through Thursday, October 22 with a final night of competition on Thursday, October 29.

“We are very excited to be a part of the Philly Aces league coming up,” said Timothy Belloff, Director of Esports at Arcadia University. “We have developed a strong partnership with Philly Esports, and they have run excellent events, so we are looking forward to the start of the season.”
