Unique App for Deaf People Wins Silver Award from World's Largest

The innovative DeafUP app will help deaf people to build a career

The DeafUP app design won the silver award from the world's largest design contest A 'Design Award & Competition. The application is a prototype designed by Brandly Collective agency to help the deaf youth to acquire professional skills.

DeafUP will allow deaf people to work with mentors through video chats with a sign language translator and learn from subtitled tutorials. The app will also enable mentors from different business areas to learn sign language to communicate with the mentees.

"Deaf people have limited access to education and professional development. DeafUP will support them to be equal professionals, to gain competitive practical experience, and to realize their full potential. This app will make communication between deaf and hearing people possible in a work environment and will improve the social skills of both sides. As a result, deaf young people will be more motivated and active, and their community will become more accessible to the rest of society. This project will help fill the gap between the deaf and the hearing world.” - Brandly Collective’s CEO Zlatina Petrova claimed.

The A’ Design jury gave 96% credit for the usability of DeafUP compliant to the specific needs of the deaf users. The prototype created on Sketch and InVision design software contains bright blue and yellow elements inspired by the international colors of the deaf community. The design of the app follows the Human Interface and Material Design guidelines.

DeafUP is to be developed as a native iOS and Android application with suitable ad-ons. Brandly Collective’s team is also planning on developing additional functionalities based on machine learning and AI.

"Brandly Collective’s mission is to help social entrepreneurs and companies build sustainable businesses and improve the environment around us. This award is recognition of our devoted work and proves that we are on the right track. We are honored to accept it", Zlatina Petrova claimed.

As a winner of the A' Design Award, the design will be showcased at the Best Designs of the Year exhibition in Como, Italy, and presented in a special print edition. The project leader Zlatina Petrova also received a nomination for Designer of the Year.

The DeafUP project starts in Eastern Europe to support the community in the region and has the potential to become a global initiative.
