Independence University Offers Respiratory Care Program with Two New Concentrations

Candidates seeking admission to IU’s Bachelor of Science Completion in Respiratory Care degree program can now choose between the following two concentrations:

• Clinical Practice
• Management

The program has been designed for respiratory care professionals, or RTs, looking for career development through continuing education. Consequently, the program is available to respiratory therapists who have a valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) license.

The clinical practice concentration is ideal for RTs who want to move to advanced clinical practitioner positions or get into more complex roles like case management or patient education.

Students who choose this concentration area are required to complete courses in Healthcare Research, The Healthcare Professional as Educator, Advanced Patient Assessment, Advanced Cardiopulmonary and Neonatal-Pediatric Diagnostics and Pathology, Case Management in Acute and Critical Care, and more.

On the other hand, the management emphasis is designed with the educational requirements of respiratory care professionals who want to take up leadership or supervisory roles.

That’s why in addition to advanced clinical courses, the program also incorporates business and management-related coursework. Topics like Respiratory Management and Leadership, Respiratory Marketing and Strategic Planning, Respiratory Care Financial Management, Respiratory Care Information Systems, and more are covered in the program to help graduates develop the skills they need to fulfill managerial duties in a respiratory care environment.

The BS in Respiratory Care program is delivered fully online at Independence University and is spread over 22 months.
