Facility Management is Becoming More Global and More Complex

Over 400 FM experts to confer at the 2007 European Facility Management Conference in Zurich.

Zurich, 30 May 2007

The significance of facility management, as a means of optimising energy efficiency in buildings, for minimising risk factors and improving cost process and organisational structures, is increasing continuously throughout the world. At the 2007 European Facility Management Conference (EFMC), about 400 attendees will be discussing current trends and challenges in the FM sector at the Swiss National Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich, on 26 and 27 June. Prof. Dr. h.c. Lothar Späth (Merrill Lynch Germany) will open the international conference with a paper on "The European Strategy - a Model for the Future for a Globalised World". One of the most influential management thinkers, Dr. Kjell A. Nordström from the Stockholm School of Economics, will close the wide-ranging conference programme with a talk on "Karaoke Capitalism and the Pressure to Innovate".

Between these events, two parallel series of lectures and the simultaneous Sixth EuroFM Research Symposium will also take place at the EFMC. There will be a presentation on best-practice examples from the private and public sectors, a discussion on the subject of energy efficiency and risk management, and a demonstration on the implementation and use of IT systems. Overseas speakers from the USA, Japan, Canada, Spain and other countries will also discuss the issues of cost and workplace management.

This year the European FM Awards will be presented for the first time at the EFMC and will recognise extraordinary achievements in practice, teaching and research.

About the EFMC

Year after year, two of the biggest international FM associations, the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) and the European Facility Management Network (EuroFM), offer a platform for discussion and presentation of current developments and innovations in facility management, the so-called EFMC. Over 400 conference attendees make this occasion one of the biggest international FM events in Europe. A joint group consisting of the associations FM Switzerland, IFMA Switzerland and the MFS, together with the ETH (ETH) Zurich and the Wädenswil Technical Institute, has succeeded in getting this important conference to come to Zurich. They are being supported by EUROFORUM Switzerland as the conference organiser.
