IPS® - Technique container as self-sufficient power supply for measuring stations

Blaschette / Luxembourg 08.03.2012: Since end of November 2011 two self-sufficient IPS® container (wind hybrid) have been standing as power supply for data acquisition in the North Sea, in front of Norfolk/England.

In that area the Norwegian company STATOIL, who built a wind park of 88 wind force wheels, 3.5 MW each, has assigned the Siemens-Wind-Power to completely measure and analyze the arising forces of current and ground movements. Particularly for these requirements SOLARtec has constructed two IPS® - container, version 8ft, for a stable and permanent power supply.

The IPS® container building method is a transportable energy center for critical and safety-relevant applications, in which the components necessary for the transformation, storage (battery plant with 12 cells à 2 V, 1,540 ah pns = 36.96 KW/H) and control of renewable energies are interconnected.

Due to a robust steel coverage the valuable elements are permanently protected from weather and fraudulent manipulations. The interacting and rough weather conditions in the North Sea require well conditioned components for a reliable power production.

A data remote supervision ensures the purposeful intervention without personal presence locally. The central control unit, the energy management, the current distribution, the battery monitoring and power electronics are covered by solid distribution boxes. The primary power production is supplied via one Darius Wind Generator with 3,0 KW on each container, the operating load (6.25 kWh/d) being supplied automatically over the DC bus with tension. Surplus is fed into the battery plant.

In accordance with local and environmental conditions a strong aluminum latticed mast is being installed and connected to the IPS® 8ft steel container. On the top the wind generator and the satellite antenna for communication are being fastened.

The secondary power supply is ensured by one automatically switchable BACK-UP generator (2.5 kVA). This generator is run by fuel from the integrated fuel tank (200l). In the case of a “bad weather situation” beyond the computed period, the accumulator battery is being loaded as fast as possible.
The measuring instruments are connected electronically to the external connection distributors, which are sea water resistant.
