NAMI Florida to Host All Together Now Virtual Speaker Series
[Tallahassee, Fla] The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Florida will kick off their All Together Now Virtual Speaker Series, on September 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The series will have industry experts discussing hot topics in mental health, embracing the state alliance’s mission of providing education, advocacy and support groups for people with mental illness and their loved ones. To start the series, “A Celebration of NAMI Florida” will introduce people to the organization, discuss mental health in the state of Florida and celebrate the year with a special awards ceremony and year in review.“The topics presented in this series are important to anyone who has experienced a mental health condition or is interested in learning everything from understanding mental health to navigating your professional care, including new treatment options and supportive services,” says NAMI Florida Board President, April Chambers. “Now more than ever, highlighting mental health is important to all of us.”
The series starts on Saturday, September 12 with Representative David Smith, Florida House of Representatives, 28th House District and Gayle Giese, NAMI Florida Board Member and President of the Florida Mental Health Advocacy Coalition. They will be discussing Mental Health in the State of Florida, followed by NAMI CEO, Daniel Gillison, who will share the vision of NAMI National. NAMI Florida President, April Chambers, will highlight the incredible work of NAMI Florida over the past year and present awards to Florida leaders for their outstanding dedication in mental health advancement, advocacy and education.
The upcoming All Together Now Virtual Speaker Series programs are scheduled as follows:
• Saturday, October 10 – Mental Health and The Criminal Justice System in Florida, Panel Discussions: Jail Diversion Through Mental Health Court and Law Enforcement Crisis Intervention Teams (CIT)
• Saturday, November 14 – Hot Topics in Mental Health, Panel Discussions: NAMI Homefront: Program for Military/Veteran Families, Stressful Days: Dealing with Pandemics, Racial Discrimination, Healthcare Disparities and Economic Challenges
• Saturday, January 9 – Improving Care for the Serious Mental Illness (SMI) Population, Panel Discussions: Supportive Housing Initiatives, Success of Behavioral Health Homes, The Role of Telemedicine in Patient Care, Reducing Hospital Admissions, Readmissions and Emergency Room Visits
• Saturday, February 13 – Ask the Expert, Panel Discussions: How to Decide if a Clinical Trial is Right for You, The Latest News on Transmagnetic Stimulation (TMS), New Pharmacotherapies for the Treatment of Depression and Psychosis, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as a Treatment for Traumatic Experiences, The Role of Long-Acting Injectables in the Treatment of Mental Illnesses
The virtual series replaces the traditional in-person NAMI Florida conference.
