RFID Workforce Expands to More Than One Million Individuals in Ten Years

RFID Tribe released a 60 page report to provide a clear picture of where RFID professionals work, how they innovate, the challenges they face and the roles they play in RFID technology.

Dallas, TX (May 28, 2007) -- RFID Tribe has released a report on the RFID workforce, “RFID Workforce 2007 – An Emerging Community”.

The 60 page report provides a clear picture of where RFID professionals work, how they innovate, the challenges they face, with whom they collaborate and the roles they play in RFID technology.

Beginning in 2005, RFID Tribe created this in-depth annual report on the RFID workforce – the first report of its kind. The 2007 annual report describes those individuals working with radio frequency identification (RFID) technology.

The RFID Workforce Report 2007 contains a ten year forecast detailing RFID employment trends by geographic region, by segment and by function from its current size to its growth to more than one million individuals in ten years. The report addresses the broad spectrum of the RFID workforce from end user, vendor, academia and the government segments. Filled with comprehensive information depicting the RFID workforce, the report includes 25 charts, graphs and exhibits and contains a list of more than 450 leading RFID vendor firms. It also includes footnoted references to secondary research.

The RFID Workforce Report paints a picture reflecting the unique perspective of those involved with RFID technology. The report provides a clear picture of where people work, how they innovate, what motivates them, the forces (market, social and economic forces) driving them, the challenges they face in their careers, their concerns, with whom they collaborate and the roles they play in the fast-moving RFID markets. The report evaluates the landscape for RFID training, learning and skills certification of the RFID workforce. The RFID Workforce Report investigates the challenges that RFID technology workers face in the race to bring RFID technology applications to market

Mark Johnson, RFID Tribe President said, “The RFID Workforce Report investigates the challenges that RFID technology workers face. The report provides insight into the RFID workforce, provides profiles of the RFID community, provides conclusions regarding this innovative population and predicts its future direction. It should be required reading for any organization intent on hiring, managing and retaining human capital in this highly skilled industry.”

The RFID industry is undergoing rapid development and innovation. Market research firms predict the market for RFID products and services will reach $12-14 billion range by 2011. As players move to take advantage of this emerging technology, its employees and partners innovate at a rapid pace to speed RFID-enabled applications to market.

Despite the industry growth and increasing adoption of RFID technology, information regarding the RFID workforce is absent. Data is scarce regarding the people heavily involved in RFID technology - the RFID workforce. Information about the workforce driving the RFID industry is just as vital as information about the technology itself.

As part of its research, RFID Tribe conducted the RFID Workforce Study using a survey tool to collect RFID workforce data. More than 100 individuals responded to the survey and provided input regarding the RFID workforce. RFID Tribe conducted follow up interviews to clarify answers provided and to collect qualitative information. RFID Tribe also used data from the RFID Talent and Career Center, a RFID technology job board found on RFID Tribe’s website.
