CU80 Stops Texting, Emailing & Enforces Mobile Phone Policies While Driving
Europe’s first safety device to stop motorists using mobiles while driving to be launched in 2012, motorists across the UK are set to be safer behind the wheel. The CU80 device takes the temptation away to tweet, surf the internet and make calls when in the driving seat.
The first system of its kind that will help stop drivers being distracted by mobile devices – phones, laptops, tablet computers or MP3 players – aims to save lives by stopping mobile activity in the car. It is ideal for business owners, directors and fleet operators looking for an easy and safe solution to stop or manage their employee’s use of mobile phones when driving and for families who want to protect young drivers and stop them texting and making calls.
Named after the UK driving offence code for using a mobile phone while driving (CU80), the device is simple to install. The CU80 device works via a Bluetooth connection which instantly blocks the use of texts and calls and prevents a driver using their mobile device when their vehicle is in motion – with the exception of making 999 emergency calls.
Eddie Eusebi, Co Founder at CU80 said: “The CU80 device makes driving safer by taking away mobile distractions which often result in accidents. The temptations of smart phones have created an enormous distraction for drivers. Virtually every mobile phone can go online and the sad fact is that many drivers are checking their Facebook status’ and Twitter news feeds as they drive and putting lives at risk as they do so.
“The law which forbids driving while using a mobile device is unfortunately widely flouted, a quarter of British drivers, as many as eight million, use their phone while on the move, either with a hands-free kit, or by holding their mobile.
“The demand and interest for the CU80 device amongst leading UK insurance companies and fleets has been very encouraging so far which makes us confident that this device will be received by the market.”
The CU80 device can block as much or as little activity from a mobile as required, from simply stopping a driver making or receiving calls from their mobile phone to blocking the ability to use an MP3 player or surf the internet on a tablet computer. The control functions of the CU80 device can be set by using the online web portal by logging into www.cu80.co.uk
Allan Gibbons, Co founder and Director at CU80 said: “We want drivers to think again about their driving habits. Many motorists can’t resist the urge to check their phone or make a call when they know they shouldn’t.
“Even hands-free mobile phone conversations are dangerous as talking to someone who is not in the car requires greater concentration to make up for the lack of visual cues and research indicates that you are four times more likely to crash while driving and using a mobile phone. Often it is not the holding of the phone which is the distraction but the concentration on the conversation.
“The CU80 takes the temptation away and ensures that drivers have their hands on the wheel and their eyes and minds firmly on the road. The reality is that many people see using a mobile device while driving as an acceptable practice, what we want to do is make using a mobile device as socially unacceptable as drink driving.”
The device can also collect information on the vehicles usage such as mileage, speed and location which can be viewed and downloaded at www.cu80.co.uk.
The CU80 device can be purchased from CU80 directly.
CU80 are a body of individuals that had a common goal to bring a solution to the market place that stops accidents caused by the use of mobile devices in vehicles and helping to save lives.
As advocates of road safety within the UK, CU80 as a collective body wanted to help with the prevention of unnecessary accidents and deaths at the wheel as the result of mobile phone usage.
The CU80 team have a road and driver safety focus, bringing a wealth of experience both nationally and internationally, with careers in the automotive and telematics industries which uncovered the need for an in-car solution to manage driver distraction caused by mobile devices which would ensure drivers drive safely and eliminates the temptation of mobile phones & device issues affecting motorists today.
