Liposuction Breast Reduction
At Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center, where scarless breast reduction was originated by Dr. Lawrence Gray, this method, using a liposuction instruments to remove fatty tissue from the breast, continues to be the procedure of choice for breast reduction. The entire breast and the subcutaneous fat are treated with slender cannulas resulting two tiny scars per breast and much quicker healing time compared to the older method.
Yet, some misconceptions do exist in the general public and by surgeons who had not yet had enough experience. One misconception is that this procedure is not for everyone, which is false. Dr. Gray states, “I have found this procedure to be successful in all patients, young and old, including patients with diabetes, hypertension, mental or physical impairments, keloids and in patients who smoke.” To date, Dr. Gray has preformed this procedure on over 1200 patients.
Another misconception is that scarless breast reduction works for only 10% of the women, which is, again, false. The breast is more that 70% fat, so significant reduction is good with liposuction alone. Supported by this same fact, liposuction is often good for gynecomastia, also, a condition of excess fat in male breasts.
An additional incorrect statement is that liposuction breast reduction is not good when you have droopy skin. Dr. Gray explains that, “Skin always tightens up when the weight beneath it has been released. People are always more concerned about the weight or heaviness of their breasts versus having droopy skin and droopy skin is more of a cosmetic issue, which can be corrected if it persists”.
