Traders are hurting India’s efforts to fight against Covid

With the Indian Government putting a cap on export of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) per month to keep the prices of PPE in the domestic market in check. The clear winner in this scenario should’ve been India, as a whole, with lower prices and a more abundant supply of PPE compared to the prices and supply under an open export policy.

However, due to the lack of connections of most Indian Textile Manufacturers within the private healthcare sector and a lack of knowledge and expertise to bid their services on government procurement portals. Traders, looking to make a quick buck, have managed to squeeze themselves into the picture, raising costs for public and private agencies involved in the fight against Covid. This inversely affects the Indian market as the prices of PPE are inflated due to additional participants in the Supply chain.

Had there been a check on trading of PPE, Indian manufacturers would’ve been able to market their products themselves straight to the consumer of PPE, reducing the externalities in the market.

To tackle this problem, Red Roses International, a known exporter with clients in North America, Europe and Australia, came up with an online store www.Medicalgowns.shop. The store focuses on selling Medical Gowns, part of PPE, straight to the consumer from the manufacturer. Cutting the middleman and reducing costs for the institutions fighting against COVID.

The store was launched on 12th June operating just in New Delhi, but due to the demand it has already started delivering pan-India.
