£10000, 2 Founders, a coffee house in old street, London

2 Founders bootstrapped their way to build an interest networking website that aims to connect individuals who share similar passion to debate, discuss and connect in real time.

Solayo is the brainchild of the CEO and co-founder of the website, Dayo Balogun. He felt there was a niche in the social media market when he saw a friend’s post on facebook bombarded with comments regarding a football match result between two rival teams.

What he realised was, there were different individuals who didn’t know each other but were engrossingly participating in the discussion and debate from his friend’s facebook post. However he noticed one problem; the commenting feature was slowing the pace and passion of the discussion/debate and some people were not responding as they wait for others to reply back.

Knowing he might have a great idea, Dayo, who was studying a post-graduate diploma in accounting at the time, went to pitch his idea to a close friend who worked for an investment bank. Fortunately, his friend seemed to also like the idea and agreed to provide the cash needed to build and launch the website in an exchange for equity in the company.

He now went on a hunt for a tech co-founder in order to turn his idea into a reality. After countless interviews and meetings he ended up with an ambitious tech-geek, Giedrius drulia, who was also passionate about the concept.

They ended up lodging at a coffee house, just a stone throw from the famous old-street roundabout (or silicon roundabout to technocrats in London). After six long months of coding, designing, exchanging ideas and not to forget sleepless nights, Solayo.com was born.

The website is launching publicly today but it’s still in a ‘limited beta phase’ said Dayo. The reason for launching the website in a ‘limited beta phase’ is to “manage the traffic the website is receiving and limit our downtime to the barest minimum” the website’s CEO said.
