Workshop Artist Makes Fine Art Paintings SingHow can artists make their paintings sing? Artist Nathan Solano uses an unconventional method of underlying nuance of color to bring harmony into the compositions.
Pueblo, Colorado - December 28, 2005 - Can fine art paintings display nuances like musical harmonies? If you blend oil and acrylics will your artist compositions render symphonic results? How do artists use depth, soft and hard edges and underlying colors to achieve vocal, nearly lyrical qualities in their paintings?
The unconventional techniques used by Colorado artist Nathan Solano transforms mere still-lifes and figure paintings into operatic choruses of rhythm and color.
Following the purpose of fine art stated by Aristotle, "The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.", Solano, adds depth, edge and layers to his work similar to a Ravel composing a musical Bolero.
Nathan uses oils with an underlying red wash to make his paintings sing - he teaches students how to employ his methods and uses live models and still-life set-ups for his daily demonstrations.
Under Solano's guidance, artists work on achieving soft and hard edges, discovering proper values, and building a strong composition. [Two examples: www.artaspens.com/gallery.asp?pg=4 ]
Nathan shows beginning through advanced students how to work in stages on two or more paintings at a time, begriming with a solid drawing, then an initial color wash, and finally a wash plus dark color.
Solano only paints with oils but students may use oils or acrylics in the class.
