Artificial Football Pitches Making a Comeback....DCM Marketing Investigates!

Press release from: DCM Marketing Services

DCM Marketing Services were intrigued to read on the BBC website that artificial football pitches could be making a comeback to not only UK football stadiums but also stadiums all over the world.
Artificial football pitches were originally banned by the football association in the late 1980’s, due to injury complaints and complaints about the quality of football played on these pitches.

Artificial pitches are very hard on the body, Aberdeen manager Mark McGhee slammed artificial pitches in 2010 saying "They are great surfaces for training purposes, in the sense of passing the ball between each other, but in dynamic movement it's a dangerous surface." After one of his players was injured playing on an artificial pitch.

As it stands Wycombe and Accrington are 2 of the UK clubs looking to bring them back. The managing director of DCM Marketing Services said ‘Improvements in technology mean that the quality of pitches has improved vastly, however the effects on the athlete’s body would need to be researched further before we see a widespread return of these pitches.’
Teams in Italy, Switzerland and Russia are already playing on artificial pitches and there are several teams playing on these pitches in Scotland also. There is talk in the footballing world that the overall match experience would be spoilt and spectators would feel like they were watching a five aside rather than a premier league match.
It seems that one of the main motivating factors behind this comeback at least in the UK is the revenue to be earned by installing these pitches, through renting out when the club has no use for it. Clubs would also be saving money on maintenance costs as turf requires a rigid upkeep routine.
DCM Marketing Services think the talk of increased revenue and cutting costs proves that even the world of football is feeling the pinch during this global recession where players are paid astronomical prices every week for playing the sport.
