DHL Exel Supply Chain revenue climbs 12% in Q1
15 May - Deutsche Post World Net (DPWN) increased EBIT by 8.7% to €998.0 million in the first quarter of 2007. Revenue rose 4.4%, to €15.5 billion. Consolidated net profit after minorities also climbed 4.0% to €499.0 million.
During the first three months of the year, revenue at the EXPRESS division rose by just 0.9%, to €3.33 billion, held back by currency effects totalling €150.0 million. In local currencies, the EXPRESS division grew organically by 6.5%. This growth was generated primarily by the high-yielding international express business. Particularly Europe as well as the Asia-Pacific and EEMEA regions recorded strong growth rates. In the Americas region, revenue in local currencies gained 3.2%, with high growth rates in the domestic business in Latin America. In euro terms, revenue in the region declined 5.6% to €1.05 billion. EBIT for the entire EXPRESS division was €62.0 million, compared with a loss of €58.0 million in the same period last year.
The LOGISTICS division boosted revenue by 6.1%, to €6.22 billion in the first quarter. In addition to negative exchange-rate effects of €174.0 million, the sale of various smaller companies reduced revenue by €32.0 million. Purely organically, revenue climbed 9.6%.
The DHL Global Forwarding business unit recorded revenue of €2.19 billion, 1.5% less than in the same period last year. The drop was due to currency effects and lower freight rates in some regions.
At DHL Exel Supply Chain revenue climbed significantly, jumping 12.0%, to €3.19 billion. The 10-year contract with the NHS in the UK contributed considerably to the increase.
The DHL Freight business unit increased first-quarter revenue 0.7% to €917.0 million.
During the reporting period, EBIT in the LOGISTICS division totalled €214.0 million compared with €157.0 million. The 36.0% increase was largely attributable to the sale of the waste disposal company Vfw AG, which led to a non-recurring income of €59.0 million. Taking higher integration costs than a year earlier into account, the business development met the Group's expectations.
Looking ahead, in the EXPRESS division, the Group expects full-year EBIT to reach at least €400.0 million, including costs related to the new Leipzig/Halle air hub. In the LOGISTICS division, the Group forecasts EBIT will climb about 15.0%, which doesn't include the sale of Vfw.

Urban Transport Policy in Europe: Meeting City Demands for Green Logistics
New Research from Analytiqa
Urban Transport Policy in Europe: Meeting City Demands for Green Logistics takes an in-depth look at the current initiatives and legislation currently being planned and implemented across twenty cities in twelve European countries across both West and Eastern Europe.
The issues addressed are those that will have the greatest impact on providers working within the express, logistics or supply chain arena. It is critical that hauliers, courier and express, logistics and distribution companies across all sectors understand and account for changes in their operational environment.
This report will assist decision makers within these organisations to ensure correct future investment into vehicles, resources, strategies and services that are not only compliant with future environmental legislation (Euro 4, Euro IV, Euro 5, Euro V, etc) and developments, but more importantly, are considered and hence able to take full advantage of some of the opportunities the future, 'greener', market will provide.
