Lifeline for the needy

Free of cost healthcare facilities are provided to underprivileged rural and hilly people of the Himalayan foothills of Sirmaur district in Himachal Pradesh by Akal Charitable Hospital at Baru Sahib in Himachal Pradesh. Now, ACH, Baru Sahib has geared up to provide more facilities to its poor and needy patients by installing “The Intelect Advanced Therapy System” which is approved by US food and drug administration (FDA).All extensive modalities required in an infirmary such as, electrotherapy, ultrasound, combination, laser and EMG, are now included in one unit available in the Department of Physiotherapy (unit of Akal Charitable Hospital).

The customization of all modalities in one therapy station is the innovative idea behind the Intelect Advanced Therapy system, all at a fraction of what each of these modalities would cost alone. Akal Charitable Hospital is a 280-bed fully functional hospital with all state-of-the art ultra-modern medical facilities. It provides medical care to the poor patientsof these remote, far flung rural areas of backward Himalayan region. This hospital caters to the medical needs of patients covering an area of a radius of 100 Km.with about 300 patients treated daily at its OPD.

In addition to the routine medical and surgical services, emergencies of all kindsare also attended. Akal Charitable Hospital is the only hospital in the region attending to the patients of snake-bite for which expensive Antivenin is given.

The patients and their attendants travel to Akal Charitable Hospital by bus, horse or on foot, undertaking quite long and arduous journey on difficult terrains to get rid of deadly diseases completely free of cost, the treatments that would normally cost up to Rs. 1 Lakh in cities. In addition to the free medical checkups and treatments, dental care, surgical procedures and post-operative medical care, all patients and their accompanying family members receive free accommodations and meals, regardless of caste, creed, color, religion and social status.
