As per the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand and Aviation Security Service, hang gliding and paragliding are significantly popular in New Zealand. For instance, in April 2019, Alexander Schleicher GmbH & Co., revealed the new aircraft AS 34 Me, at the AERO exhibition in Germany.
This is beneficial for visitors who were looking for fun and easy to fly aircraft with self-introducing capability with low maintenance costs and at a reasonable purchase price. It features efficient handling characteristics and better flying performance. In addition, the electrical propulsion system delivers adequate power to allow every day powered sailplane operations. Moreover, in March 2018, Stemme AG declared that it would present two new motor gliders models, S12-SW and S12-G at the AERO in Friedrichshafen.
Both these new models reinforce Stemme’s products range and widen the current product portfolio with the advanced Garmin glass cockpit variant with a wingspan of 25 meter and short wing variant with 21.7 m wingspan. Through its compact 21.7-m wingspan, the S12-SW offers better comfort and handiness and therefore, it is easier to handle, featuring better maneuverability on the ground and higher roll rate in the air. Even in space constraints, S12-SW offers extreme flexibility that opens up new flying horizons. This, in turn, is resulting the adoption of these new gliders to increase comfort and performance and thus, driving the global glider aircraft market.
