Chinese Space Agency Uses Critical Software’s CsXception To Test Critical IT Systems

Critical Software announces that it will provide the Chinese aerospace market with one of its best known products, csXception, a fault injection system used to validate systems with high levels of criticality.

After NASA placed its trust in csXception to test its own critical systems, the product has become a standard for use by space agencies all over the world, including the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). Now the China Aerospace Corporation (CASC) follows suit.

csXception facilitates fault injection in critical IT systems, the monitoring of the resulting fault handling processes and the evaluation of their impact on the overall behaviour of the computer systems. Although originally designed for the space market, where the radiation background creates a high level of hardware faults for software to contend with, csXception has become widely used as a support tool for the development of critical systems in civil and military aeronautics. It is used in testing environments to help ensure that as far as is humanly possible, the systems used in fixed and rotary wing aircraft never suffer catastrophic failures.

“With this product, systems can be evaluated under extreme conditions, allowing for the validation of the reliability levels of fault tolerance mechanisms,” said Rui Cordeiro, director of the Aeronautics, Space and Defence Business Unit at Critical Software.

The aerospace sector in China has been developing at an impressive pace throughout the last decade.
