Press release from: Nadrich & Cohen LLP

Nadrich & Cohen LLP reports that a federal judicial panel has voted to consolidate pending Actos bladder cancer claims into a multidistrict litigation for pretrial proceedings.

Los Angeles, CA, January 5, 2012 – Plaintiffs in the Actos bladder cancer litigation have successfully moved to have the federal lawsuits consolidated into a multidistrict litigation for pretrial proceedings. The cases will be transferred to the Western District Court of Louisiana, with the Honorable Rebecca F. Doherty presiding.

Takeda Pharmaceuticals, the Japanese maker of Actos, had previously opposed the motion. The company is currently facing an estimated 3,500 lawsuits filed in state and federal courts across the country on behalf of patients who claim the drug caused serious side effects.

Actos (pioglitazone) was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 1999 to treat Type 2 diabetes in adult patients. In September 2010, an FDA-sponsored research study indicated that prolonged exposure to pioglitazone could potentially result in an increased risk for developing bladder cancer.

In June 2011, the FDA issued an updated safety communication advising doctors and diabetes patients that taking the drug for a year or more could significantly elevate individual bladder cancer risk.

If you or a loved one was diagnosed with bladder cancer after taking Actos, you can complete a MedWatch form by visiting www.fda.gov. It is also recommended that you contact an experienced Actos bladder cancer attorney to discuss your legal rights.

Nadrich & Cohen LLP offers confidential, no-cost consultations to Actos users across the country that were harmed by the drug. Help is available by calling the firm’s injury hotline at 1-800-722-0765 or by completing an online case evaluation form at www.sideeffectactos.com.
