Lawn & Weed Expert

Summer is almost here, and with many households still stuck at home due to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, our gardens are likely to see significantly more use than normal this year.

Cardiff-based lawn care specialists Lawn & Weed Expert have shared a few handy tips to help homeowners look after their lawns during the long, hot summer:

- Mow your lawn twice a day. Summer is a period of rapid growth for your lawn, so it's important to cut the grass more often than you would in spring or autumn.

- Make sure your lawn mower is in good working order, and that the blades are nice and sharp.

- When mowing, follow the 1/3 rule: don't cut off more than a third of your grass's height in one mowing session.

- Your lawn will get thirsty during the hot, dry months that lay ahead of us. Water your lawn heavily 1 to 2 times a week.

- If the ground is turning hard because it hasn't been watered for some time, use a garden fork to spike holes in the ground before watering. This will ensure that the water is able to penetrate the soil.
