ZIGMA GROUND SOLUTIONS FIND THEIR FOOTING AROUND THE GLOBE WITH HELP FROM UKTI
Advice from UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) has helped Essex manufacturer andsupplier of temporary access and ground protection, Zigma Ground Solutions(Zigma), triple its overseas activity over the past year.Since Zigma’s first year in operation in 2006, the company hit the ground running with sales revenues reaching £700K. This year sales are forecast to be £3.5m, of which £1m will be for export. The company’s sales forecast for 2011/2012 is £5m,with £3m generated from export sales, trebling their overseas achievement.Owner and managing director, Iain Brown, signed up to UK Trade & Investment’s (UKTI) Passport to Export programme at the start of 2009 and subsequently joined their Gateway to Global Growth Scheme, working with UKTI International Trade Adviser, Steve Toogood throughout.
This support helped Zigma to identify possible distributors for the Middle East,Germany and the United States of America(USA). Since then Zigma has gone global, now exporting its products to countries around the world including Australia,Austria, Denmark, Dubai, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Poland, USA, Sweden and
Switzerland.
"I established Zigma with my partner Feann in 2006 and it was always my ambition to take the company international. Having 25 years business experience running international companies overseas, this became a reality when we started manufacturing our own products in 2008. Very quickly this led to the company’s export activity, which began in January 2009 - initially into Scandinavia and Germany. We haven’t looked back since."
He added:"The support that we’ve received from Steve along the way has been invaluable. We were immediately impressed with his experience and knowledge and the UKTI services and funds available for small businesses wanting to move into export or expand their existing export activity, like Zigma."
More recently Zigma has used UKTI’s Exporting Marketing Research Scheme (EMRS) and Overseas Market Introduction Service to commission research from the UKTI Consulate based teams to help their entry into the German and US markets. The USA is the largest market for temporary access and roadways and is the ‘home’ of the man handable access mat, one of Zigma’s key products, so breaking into the USA was a dream come true for the company.
Zigma also took advantage of the SOLO scheme to exhibit at BAUME Bauma in April this year, the world’s largest construction exhibition.
The company has shipped £400k of export products within the last 8 weeks and next year they are expecting exports of £1.5m.
Building on this global success Zigma is now looking to break into the rest of Europe, including Russia, and other countries such as Japan and Korea. The company is alsolooking to target major oil and gas exploration countries like Canada, South America,Kazakhstan and Indonesia where conditions require temporary roadways due to
severe and adverse weather and environments, including jungles, dense forestation
and swamps.
Steve Toogood said:
"Zigma is an excellent company, with differentiated product technology. They have approached exporting in a way that is considered and effective, carrying out necessary groundwork in researching target markets which has helped in their success. Iain and his team are always considering new opportunities and understand how best to engage with and utilise UKTI services engaging with my colleagues in the UK Embassies and Consulate offices around the world. I am confident of their continued growth."
Zigma designs, manufactures and supplies products across Europe and Worldwide that combine innovative technology and unique features.
