There is a great deal of confusion on how companies can mitigate the transmission of the COVID 19 virus in the workplace. According to the CDC "surfaces must be first cleaned prior to being disinfected." By only wiping surfaces with disinfectant wipes, dirt and sticky detergent residue from previous cleanings become a magnet for bacteria. To ensure a safe environment, areas must be continually cleaned and in particular high-contact areas like door handles.

To ensure the safest work environment possible, facility mangers need to develop a comprehensive building sanitation program, along with a contingency plan in the event that an employee or visitor tests positive.
o Facility managers should establish a written program for all areas of a facility. The program should outline what surfaces to be cleaned, how often and with what products.
o Confirm that disinfectants are approved by the EPA for use against SARS-CoV-2 by reviewing the EPA's Emerging Viral Pathogen policy, which is frequently updated and available in the EPA's website.

o Create a separate outbreak preparedness procedure, in the event that an outbreak occurs in their facility. Employees should understand what symptoms of outbreak to be alert for as well as how germs transmission occurs and PPE use.
