Women Injured by Vaginal Mesh Urged to Seek Legal help

The first bellweather trials for these lawsuits are scheduled to begin in federal court in November 2012.
In July 2011, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced it would conduct an ongoing safety review of vaginal mesh implants. From 2008 to 2011, the FDA received approximately 4,000 complaints from women who claimed they had been injured by a transvaginal mesh device. While there are currently no plans to recall vaginal mesh devices, consumer watchdog group Public Citizen is urging the FDA to take the products off the market.
In November 2011, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Urogynecologic Society issued a joint recommendation urging physicians to restrict the use of vaginal mesh only to those high-risk women for whom other treatment methods would prove ineffective. The two organizations also recommended the creation of a national registry, which would track past, present and future recipients of a vaginal mesh implant.
