WiMAX Forum South Africa Operator Summit 2011

Beaverton, OR – December 7th, 2011 – Today the WiMAX Forum announced its 2012 Operator Summit Series. Launched in 2011, the WiMAX Forum Operator Summit Series brought targeted, localized events to different regions of the world with a focus on serving the needs of WiMAX operators through education and networking. These summits were free to attend and open to the industry, attracting 420 attendees, including 179 representatives from 84 different WiMAX operators, over the course of the year.

In 2011 the Operator Summit Series provided interactive working events for all participants, both operators and vendors, to meet, exchange ideas and develop business and cooperative relationships. The events highlighted the opportunities, challenges and strategies involved in operating profitable WiMAX network in each targeted region.

“The WiMAX Forum Operator Summit Series has directly led us to acquire new business,” said Kay Tan, Group COO for Greenpacket. “Our sales team has found the events to be an effective way of meeting new potential clients in an intimate setting, and through our participation we have been able to gain visibility and operator confidence.”

“Having participated in WiMAX South Africa, it helped us accelerate a lot of pending decisions regarding a range of issues from device and CPE strategy to investor interactions to enhancing our roll out strategy” said Semere Tekie, Managing Director of Microteck. “As an operator running a WiMAX network in Africa, the event was an excellent chance for me to meet with global representatives from the WiMAX ecosystem and ask them hard questions regarding my business’ needs. I learned a lot at the event, and found it a great opportunity to make valuable business connections.”

“The 2011 WiMAX Forum Operator Summit Series was a great success,” said Ron Resnick, President of the WiMAX Forum. “By putting the focus on operator education we were able to create an environment in which operators were able to take away valuable insight, while giving vendors ample opportunity to make important business development connections.”
