Evan Guthrie Law Firm Visits Wando High School Rhetoric of Law Class

The Rhetoric of Law class focuses on the nuances of trial advocacy, application of the law, and courtroom procedure. The students in the class conduct mock trials where they argue cases and have witnesses on a law school level type course in a high school setting. Attorney Evan Guthrie of the Evan Guthrie Law Firm in Charleston, South Carolina spoke to the students about his experiences conducting trials and some of the things that he learned in his law school trial advocacy courses.
Mr. Guthrie talked about how he prepares his case before he goes to court and how he gets ready to speak in front of a jury. Attorney Guthrie also spoke on some of the aspects of body language of how to stand and speak in a courtroom. Attorney Evan Guthrie then made the students get up in front of the class and demonstrate some of the fundamentals of trial advocacy that he was speaking about. Mr. Guthrie talked about all the different aspects of a trial including opening statements, direct and cross examination, and closing statements.
Mr. Guthrie also took the time to answer questions that ranged from experiences in law school to his experience as being a lawyer in the real world. Attorney Guthrie spoke to two different classes of the course and was impressed with the level of skill of the students and enjoyed his visit to Wando High School Rhetoric of Law class.
