Stefan Magiera (36) will take up his appointment as Area Manager Eastern Europe on 1st January 2012 to run airberlin’s commercial operations in that region. In this newly created position, the qualified travel agent and graduate in business administration will be responsible for the overall sales and commercial activities in the region, which covers Russia & CIS, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Serbia.

airberlin had already announced in October that it would be strengthening its presence in Eastern Europe. In conjunction with NIKI airberlin has developed Vienna as a hub for Eastern Europe. Existing services from the hubs in Berlin and Düsseldorf have already been increased. The start of the summer schedule 2012 will see expanded flight services to Poland. "The appointment of Stefan Magiera as Area Manager Eastern Europe is an important step in strengthening airberlin’s market presence and position in this strategically important region. Stefan Magiera, with his extensive international experience, will be key in the further development of the sales organisation," said Mats Jacobsson, Vice President International Sales airberlin.

Magiera joined airberlin in 2004 and has been based in Bangkok as General Manager South East Asia and Middle East. Isaraporn Kongchana, Head of Marketing and Sales Thailand, will be acting as Country Manager until a successor to Magiera is appointed by early 2012.
