ISFFH 2011 Celebrating Filmmakers Around the World

The ISFFH will be screening extraordinary cinema by emerging filmmakers from around the world! The International Student Film Festival Hollywood received entries from 14 countries around the world this year, 85 films were accepted into the 2011 competition. Films have come from the United Kingdom, Turkey, South Africa, Poland, Israel, India, Germany, France, Egypt, Czech Republic, Canada, Australia and the USA.

The 9th annual International Student Film Festival Hollywood (ISFFH) will take place November 5 – 6, 2011 at Beverly Garland’s Holiday Inn in the NoHo Arts District of North Hollywood. There will be two days of screenings featuring this year’s accepted films; the schedule can be seen on the ISFFH website. Filmmakers engage in a brief discussion with the audience after their films have been screened. This year we have a number of filmmakers coming from throughout the USA, Canada and from as far away as Australia, Israel and Egypt. After two days of screenings, the event will culminate with the awards ceremony on November 6th where student awards will be announced.

This year the ISFFH will recognize a teacher during the awards ceremony. Jeff Rudkin has been bringing students and their films to the ISFFH since the first festival in 2003. In 2005 and again in 2010, Mr. Rudkin and his middle school students received official press accreditation to cover 60th and 65th Anniversary Ceremonies of the Liberation of Auschwitz in Poland. This past summer, Mr. Rudkin took a crew of middle school students to shoot documentaries in Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, and Fiji. Next summer a crew will travel to England, Ireland, and France. This man is truly deserving of the ISFFH 2011 Award of Excellence.

Versatile, committed, eloquent and talented are all adjectives that describe actor/activist Edward Asner. Schedule permitting, Mr. Asner will be speaking to student filmmakers and guests at the awards ceremony as he receives the ISFFH Lifetime Achievement Award this year. One of the most honored actors in the history of television; Edward Asner has been the recipient of seven Emmy Awards and 16 nominations, as well as five Golden Globe Awards and served as National President of the Screen Actors Guild for two terms. He was inducted into the TV Academy Hall of Fame in 1996. Asner received the Ralph Morgan Award from the Screen Actors Guild in 2000, presented periodically for distinguished service to the Guild’s Hollywood membership. In March 2002, he was again honored by The Guild as the 38th recipient of the prestigious Life Achievement Award for career achievement and humanitarian accomplishment, presented annually to an actor who fosters the highest ideals of the profession. It is a privilege for the ISFFH to honor this gentleman.

The ISFFH is a non-profit organization that relies on the generosity of others in support of the next generation of filmmakers.
