SGS Provides Maintenance Optimization for Grand Central Railway Company in UK

SGS, the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company, was awarded a contract to perform complex Maintenance Optimization services in the United Kingdom by Grand Central Railway Company Limited on July 2, 2011. The maintenance was contracted by Grand Central through a depot access agreement to Northern Rail at Heaton depot in Newcastle.

Grand Central Railway Company Limited is a privately-owned train operating company (TOC) that provides passenger rail services in the United Kingdom. With the aim to improve the current maintenance examination regimes of its fleet of high-speed trains (HST) between the northeast of England, Yorkshire and London, Grand Central looked for a reliable third-party testing company.

SGS Correl Rail (SGSCRL) was awarded the contract to perform comprehensive Maintenance Optimization services due to its first-rate competence and know-how in similar projects. During the entire contract, scheduled from July to November 2011, SGS will optimize the maintenance examination regimes of the HST fleet by introducing balanced examination work. SGS’s objective is to improve the overall amount of examination work, by providing examinations more frequently, but with less content.

Based on its extensive expertise in the field of inspection and verification, SGS will help the client to create an optimized Grand Central HST balanced maintenance examination regime to guarantee a constant workload at the Grand Central depot, which requires less resources and a reduction in labor. With SGS’s help, Grand Central Railway Company Limited will conduct their maintenance works more efficiently, using less resources and with a leaner labor force, which will result in a smoother workflow and a more constant level of staff.
