Stem is Fem educational module goes online

The charity project Stem is Fem was launched by Gamingtec to popularize STEM education among Ukrainian schoolgirls. The first three modules gathered participants in Kyiv at offline lectures and workshops, while the fourth one, that will be held in April, is going to be held online due to the global COVID-19 pandemic and quarantine provided in Ukraine.

The fourth educational module of the STEM is FEM project will be held, as planned, on the 11th and 12th of April. It will be focused on robotics and engineering and will unite girls interested in mathematics and programming. The module is currently open for applications.

According to European statistics, only 20% of graduates in engineering faculties in universities are women. The gender gap in this field in Ukraine is even bigger. Thus, Stem is Fem project aims to make a difference and prove: engineering education is open for girls as well and can open up for them an opportunity to build a brilliant career in Ukrainian and international projects.

Robotics and Engineering Module will be held online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, participants will receive access to motivational speeches, lectures, workshops, question and answer sessions with women that have already reached successful results in these fields. Online platforms give a wide range of opportunities and can be used as an alternative to face-to-face meetings. Self-isolation is a priority for everyone while staying in quarantine but this does not mean ejection of education and communication with like-minded people.

Sapar Karyagdyyev, CEO of Gamingtec, said: "Quarantine is a good time to take advantage of technological innovations regarding new knowledge. I hope this online meeting will cheer up girls and help each of them feel like a part of a big community even though they have to stay isolated at home."

Stem is Fem's course on robotics and engineering will educate 30 girls from different Ukrainian cities and towns. All participants will receive souvenirs to remember the module. The grand prize will go to a participant that will show the best scores after two-day educational session.
