PINKEY® SMART: OFFICIALLY PRESENTED AT CARTES 2011, PARIS

Paris, 15-17 November 2011 - Card Tech®, company based in Udine and worldwide proprietor of several patents for innovative mobile devices, will present at Cartes 2011, the biggest international event on digital security and smart technologies that will take place at the Parc des Expositions of Paris from 15 to 17 November 2011, a preview of the innovative smart card feauturing a biometric sensor for fingerprint recognition, registered on a worldwide scale as PinKey® Smart.

PinKey® Smart by Card Tech®, embeds an advanced capacitive biometric sensor and features a biometric algorithm running on a separate microcontroller capable of real time image processing and matching with the user's fingerprint (template). This particular approach allows to keeping the biometric data of the user secret and safe inside the smart card, thus granting the user's privacy. The device appears as a regular smart card (it measures 85,60 x 53,98 x 0,76 mm) and it is complete with a battery, on/off button and status led.

The applications of PinKey® Smart are various: from the financial, institutional, government, banking and company framework yo the identification and time attendance monitoring of the employees of Public. The immediate benefit for the user is that the access to the card is granted to its owner only through a simple operation of fingerprint verification. In the particular case of banking services, PinKey® Smart represents the natural evolution of the classic debit cards and prepaid cards, providing additional protection against theft and misuse of the banking data and access credential. PinKey® Smart is also suitable for applications such as home banking and mobile/online payment that, thanks to this innovative device, could become more safe and secure so that to convince even the most distrustful user. The result will be an important increase of secure transactions and an appreciable decrease of frauds.

The biometric verification performed by PinKey® Smart allows for improvements on security in the most diverse institutional fields, thanks to the possibility to protect the personal identity of the user: from ID cards to the electronic polling, from the fruition of healthcare services to the passports and VISAs. In particular, the latter will help to carry out the control procedures at the frontiers and inside the airports by speeding the identification of the travelers, while respecting their privacy.

In the current technological scenario, in which there is a growing number of operation and transactions made online, the application of this new kind of smart card ensures safer access to a wide range of services: when read by a regular smart card reader, pinKey® Smart brings a consistent added value to application like access control, time attendance verification, personal certification and digital signature. So far, the state-of-the-art payment systems check the validity of “POS>CARD” only; the goal of pinKey® Smart is to verify the validity “POS>CARD>USER”, improving on the security of the online and offline transactions by including the identity verification of the user in the loop.

PinKey® Smart is protected by a series of international patents that prevent its technological uniqueness to be stolen or imitated. The matching of the fingerprints is performed entirely inside the card, keeping the user’s personal information and privacy safe. Fully ISO 7810 ID-1 and ISO 7816 compliant, pinKey® Smart can be read by all the smart card readers available on the market, being absolutely identical in the shape and appearance to any common everyday-use card. Inside the device, though, resides a capacitive biometric sensor, that enables the card only when the legitimate user swipes his or her finger on it.

PinKey® Smart redefines the current security standards, although its employment does not require any kind of redesign of the current infrastructure, since already fully compliant with it, hence immediately spread in the market.
