Love Between Storeys

The public premiere club for short film Love Between Storeys is held at Helsinki culture complex Andorra on November 2nd 2011, starting at 9PM. Love Between Storeys is a 30-minute rom-com sporting a minimal budget, but a lot of heart and the efforts of tens of people, as well as an international cast. It tells the story of a stressful morning, when two young Londoners are forced to take a break from their hectic lives as they get stuck together in the lift of a law office.

The movie has just been selected to compete among the best shorts in the professional series at the Helsinki Short Film Festival; a rare occurrence, as the project was made on a voluntary basis and a budget covering only travel expenses and equipment. The indie-production has been graced by lots of material help from a selection of finish top designers: The lead actors' wardrobe was kindly contributed by Minna Parikka, Turo Tailor and Ril's.

The film's lead actors were cast from a batch of approx 420 applicants. “Our original hopes were to peak the interest of about seven actors for our lead parts. Our expectations were blown out of the water with the barrage of applications” sums co-director Tom Norrgrann. After a slew of intensive casting sessions London model-actor Lyston Laurence and French Cannes star Aurélie Amblard were chosen for the lead parts.

In August 2010 the actors were flown to Finland for a week-long interior shoot. The exteriors were shot during a single day in the streets of London with a crew of three. ”Many have asked if our production methods are some kind of statement about the Finnish film production system, but we actually just had a good story that we wanted to share with the world, and found our own way to get that story told” notes co-director Nils-Erik Ekblom.

Visiting Finland for the first time, the actors didn't really have the time to see much of the country as shooting filled up practically all their time in Helsinki. They might get another chance to soak in the sights when they return to Helsinki for the premiere; the film has recently been completed and the actors are flying in for the premiere club in Helsinki on November 2nd 2011.
