Dallas Designer Melissa Woody to Open Custom Lighting Design Studio

(DALLAS, TX) October 19, 2011 — Melissa Woody has earned her reputation as a top Dallas designer. For more than twenty years, she has worked on city projects, medical offices, builder finish outs, residential clients and even landscaping. But what really strikes her fancy is lighting.

That’s why Woody is adding another shop to her repertoire with The Lamp Shoppe: Custom Design Studio. The new shop will open its doors on November 1 at 1515 Dragon Street in Dallas’s design district. Woody is no stranger to the designer shopping scene; she currently has three shops in Dallas at Lover’s Lane Antique Market, Nick Brock Antiques on Knox Henderson, and The Mews.

“When designing a room, I love all the elements that come together to change the look and feel of a space, but lighting is special,” says Woody. “Great lighting can make or break a space, and even just one outstanding lamp can be a statement or conversation piece. Light dramatically alters an entire room.”

Woody may be a talented designer, but she also understands how to manage a turnkey business. Many designers veer away from custom lamps because of the turnaround time, but Woody has set up her team and process to ensure the fastest delivery possible.

For Woody, speedy turnaround doesn’t mean sacrificing materials or quality. “When working on a design project, I will often hunt down just the right materials for a custom lamp to put the finishing touches on a specific space. I want to give every customer that same attention in record time,” she says.

Lampshade options cover all bases with pleated, full fabric, hard back, and smocked. Bases can be made from almost any material: faux marble, acrylic, stainless steel, or natural materials.

Woody’s lamps are loved by locals as well as celebrities. The last time he was in Dallas, Rod Stewart picked one up to brighten up his home. Rizzoli & Isles star Angie Harmon is another famous lamp lover who appreciates Woody’s style.

While she loves working with all kinds of materials, Woody is also renowned for her custom mineral lamps constructed from various natural materials including petrified wood, selenite, satin spar, black quartz, and Bolivian amethyst.

“The right lighting concept can completely alter the way a room looks and feels,” says Woody. “While I have a very Texan perspective and style, my work also reflects my travels to Europe. These materials come from all over the globe, and there’s something very special and powerful in that. The right light from the right lamp will make any space sparkle.”
