RackTop Systems Delivers Extraordinary IOPS in a 2U ZFS Storage Appliance, zFLASH
Columbia, MD – RackTop Systems, a leader in ZFS appliances, introduces zFLASH, an enterprise-class storage appliance that uses only solid state memory for storage. Powered by NexentaStor, zFLASH is a ZFS solution that is able to deliver extreme performance and the IOPS necessary for virtual machines, databases, and other applications that require extreme random input output operations.zFLASH is part of RackTop’s BrickStor storage appliance line. The solution offers scalability from 1.2TB up to 11.2TBs in a 2U rack mount storage enclosure. RackTop is launching zFlash in three initial models, each with increasing performance and scalable capacity. The entry level zFLASH-100 delivers an unassailable number of IOPS yet has a starting price of under $15,000. zFLASH is priced and architected to enable SMB and Enterprise customers alike to take advantage of the extreme performance of an all SSD storage tier. Unlike many competing storage solutions, zFLASH includes licensing for both block and file protocols including iSCSI, NFS, CIFS, and incorporates features such as inline compression, deduplication, replication, and snapshots at no additional cost.
zFLASH is an eco-friendly storage appliance. The use of SSDs greatly reduces power consumption all the while delivering an unprecedented amount of capacity and IO within a small form factor. A storage appliance that uses 15K RPM SAS drives for storage would require thousands of drives to provide the same amount of IOPS zFLASH delivers in a single 2U enclosure. zFLASH doesn’t use auto-tiering, a process that moves less frequently accessed data from the highest performing tier to a lower performing tier, eliminating excess power usage every time data is moved to a new tier. BrickStor zFlash delivers consistent read and write performance across the entire storage volume, unlike solutions that use solid state drives solely for caching. zFLASH leverages the inherent capabilities of ZFS to further accelerate hot block reads direct from RAM.
Evan Powell, CEO of Nexenta Systems, says, “RackTop’s zFLASH is a great solution for customers who need enterprise data integrity and extreme performance. It is really exciting to see this solution in the market. Other solutions would require a building of disks to deliver this kind of performance.”
