Mumbai, 13th October: To celebrate World Food Day Association of Food Scientists and Technologists India – Mumbai Chapter (AFSTI) organizes the Dr. K.U. Naram Memorial Lecture and Awards on October 15th.

This year World Food Day will be marked with a conference open to all. The theme of the conference is “Food Prices – From Crisis to Stability” which is adopted by Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations. This will be followed by the Dr. K.U. Naram Memorial Award Ceremony which recognizes and appreciates the work of students in the field of Food Science & Technology. In this academic year over 30 students from over 12 Food Science & Technology colleges will receive this award for their outstanding efforts in achieving commendable merits in the field. The awardees will receive a certificate of recognition as well as a cash prize. The Dr. K.U. Naram Memorial lecture will discuss “Nano Foods for the Future” which will be followed by a lecture on “The Price of Hunger.”

Commenting on this occasion, Joint Secretary of AFSTI, Dr. Vidyutt K. Naram says, “These awards were instituted considering Dr. K.U. Naram’s efforts for the Research & Development in the field of Naturopathy and Food Technology put for over 65 years. The objective of the award ceremony is to recognize and motivate deserving students in the field of Food Technology.”

He further adds “In its 9th year, the Dr. K.U. Naram Memorial Awards have become a major event amongst students in Mumbai. The prestigious award is meant to honor & encourage students to continuously strive to be ahead and excel in the field of food science & technology. Many of the past awardees have become successful food technologists , entrepreneurs and educators in their own right.”
About Dr. K. U. Naram, Lecture and Awards:
Dr. K.U. Naram is a renowned naturopath who has done painstaking research in natural & health food for over 65 years which has been recognized by many institutes across the country. He is the recipient of Rajiv Gandhi Award for excellence in 1994.
The Dr. K.U. Naram Memorial Awards were instituted in 2003 for students in the field of food science & technology. Under this programme, AFSTI awards cash prizes and certificates to deserving students. There is also an annual lecture in the name of Dr. K.U. Naram.
