NUED

Nationwide-They work long. They work hard. They possess tenacity in the face of unique odds. They are urban educators committed to student success in high-need schools. They deserve their own special holiday celebrating them, and now they have it! Celebrating National Urban Educator Day (NUED) annually March 9 is now a thing! That's right.
While we love all educators who genuinely contribute to student academic, and ultimate life success, urban educators are a niche group with a unique set of challenges specific to their typically high-need educational setting, and are deserving of recognition apart from the general educator population. According to Kincheloe (2010), "Urban schools do, however, share some uniquqe physical and demographic characteristics that differentiate them from suburban and rural school districts. Unlike suburban and rural school districts, urban school districts operate in densely populated areas serving significantly more students. In comparison to suburban and rural districts, urban school districts are frequently marked by higher concentrations of poverty, greater racial and ethnic diversity, larger concentrations of immigrant populations and linguistic diversity, and more frequent rates of student mobility (RTI Action Network, 2020). This takes true dedication to the students served, and dedicated urban educators deserve to be celebrated in there own right!! Therefore, the Inaugural National Urban Educator Day (NUED) will be celebrated March 9, 2020. National Urban Educator Day (NUED) founder says "These urban educators are they who stick it out when the going gets tough, exercise patience and impart wisdom concerning the additional challenge set they face, and consistently inspire hope in students amid what may seem to be insurmountable odds!"
So honor an urban educator on National Urban Educator Day (NUED) March 9. Post on social media with hashtag/s urbaneducatorday and NUED39, research challenges faced by urban educators and how you may potentially help with this, reach out to an urban educator who impacted your life positively, develop appreciation for what committed urban educators contribute to academia, attend the official National Urban Educator Day (NUED) event, join a conference call, and just show your love for urban educators!
