FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

OCCUPY RALEIGH! Group Sing-A-Long sends a message to Wall Street
-“We are the 99 Percent” Local Singer/Protester rallies at Ruckus Pizza!
-Local Musician Occupies Wall Street in His Own Way

Raleigh, NC, September 27, 2011 - Last Tuesday at the Ruckus Pizza Open Mic, local singer/songwriter Brandon Scott McLean brought a few people together to send a video-song-message to “friends” who are in New York City, occupying Wall Street.

McLean wrote the words to his chorus almost immediately after learning what has been going on in Liberty Square in New York City since September 16th, 2011. He admitted that the words are “a bit brash” and “pretty simple”:

We are the 99 Percent
We are fed up with this Bullshit
We are the 99 Percent
...You better get used to it

We are the 99 Percent
We don't believe in this government
We are the 99 Percent
It's just a plant...LEGALIZE IT!!!

When asked why it seems that the song is merely an anthem to legalize pot, he rebuttled that “It’s not just about the marijuana. That’s just one small tiny thing affected by the majority of the people being controlled by an insanely small group. The 1% controls everything: laws, policies, healthcare, schools, the MEDIA!, and I just want to help spread this message to as many people as I humanly can. People are ANGRY, and this movement is long overdue.”

Brandon Scott McLean plays guitar and sings, both in a solo project, and in a Raleigh-based rock and roll outfit called The Windsor Oaks Band, formerly Cougar Magnum. He and the band spent the entire summer on the road, promoting their debut album (McLean’s third release) to the eastern seaboard.
