Impressive Debut for Panic Room at World’s Largest Security Events
Having only been launched into the marketplace mid-2011, the Panic Room Company’s innovative Panic Room product was a surprisingly big hit at two of the world’s largest security events – IFSEC South Africa held on 6 to 8 September and DSEi in London on 13 to 16 September.Steve Brook, Business Development Director of the Panic Room Company, was at both events, “At the IFSEC Show in Johannesburg we met with many security companies who were very keen to add our Panic Room to their portfolio as there is a massive need for such a product. Whilst in the UK the threat may be more perceived, in South Africa the threat of personal attack is very real – not to mention wider demand across Sub-Saharan Africa.”
“South Africa ranks number one globally per capita for murders with firearms and for assaults and many middle- to high-income households already employ private security firms to man security checkpoints at the entrance to their homes. The Panic Room has been viewed as an essential addition, the last point of defence, to the high perimeter walls, cameras, barriers, guards and dogs already in use. At IFSEC we entered into serious discussions with everyone from private banking security councils to protection for diamond and tobacco dealers. We will undoubtedly be handling many Panic Room orders as a result of the Show.”
At DSEi the results were equally encouraging. As the world’s largest land, sea and air defence and security exhibition, DSEi brings together senior international trade and military experts under one roof. Attendance for 2011 was 29,112, up 16% on 2009, and the 1,391 exhibiting companies came from 46 countries. An ideal environment to showcase the new Panic Room.
Steve continues, “As DSEi operates with tight vetting and entry controls and is only open to those engaged in legitimate areas of the defence industry, such as armed forces and government, the exhibition is very serious and focused. The Panic Room stand was constantly busy and attracted many enquiries from Spain, the Middle East and Africa in particular. Proving how diverse a usage the product has, we are now looking at supplying Panic Rooms as gun stores and sentry boxes on merchant ships at risk of piracy and as concealed VIP protection units at high profile public events. We couldn’t really have asked any better platform to promote the Panic Room.”
Produced in consultation with senior military experts and police, the Panic Room is a safe, sustainable refuge as a last point of defence and can be specified to withstand mechanical attacks, shotgun fire and more powerful weapon attacks. Each unit can be connected to complementary devices such as a simple ‘panic button’ to activate the home alarm system, iPad-2 technology using ISDN or 3G to contact external help or a bespoke computer system able to drive smoke screens or security cameras.
The unit can be disguised to unobtrusively blend in with any environment and, although the time spent within is likely to be minimal, the Panic Room is comfortable and sustainable with external ventilation and air filtration, breathing equipment, lighting, back-up power supplies, fresh water and basic toilets all part of the concept.
