Eldercare & Alzheimer’s Therapy Executive, Steven Berube, to Share Memory Care Advances for Caregivers of Aging Parents on 'Coping with Caregiving' Radio at wsRadio.com/CopingWithCaregiving
SEPTEMBER 22, 2011 — Steven Berube, CEO of Moving Pictures, Inc. and founder of the inclusive Ultimate Sports Program for kids, will be interviewed on the popular “Coping with Caregiving” Internet radio program on Saturday, September 24th. Berube will share the story of how he developed Photographic Journeys, a revolutionary memory therapy to help your loved one with Alzheimer's to retrain their brain and reduce stress for the whole family. The radio show features four healthcare professionals and is broadcast live worldwide free from 3-4:00 pm Pacific Time, with Berube’s interview airing at 3:30 pm PT (6:30 pm EST) in segment 3. Berube became involved in cognitive care after surviving a traumatic brain injury in a near-fatal car accident caused by a drunk driver and subsequently losing much of his memory, including the coding language for his job as a systems analyst, and the identities of his wife and children. Multiple brain surgeries and various therapies did nothing to help Berube retrieve his memories so he decided to come up with his own way to remember his family. Through sheer determination and personal insight, he was able to create his own composite therapy that was more effective than anything his doctors could recommend. He began creating a video of his kids composed of pictures of his family and the music that wrung his heartstrings. This combination was remarkably effective in retaining Berube’s brain to remember details he had lost.
More studies have been published as more researchers have discovered the same thing Berube has – that music is an extremely effective therapy for people with cognitive deficits because we form an enduring emotional attachment to particular songs. His own experience with memory loss compelled Berube to dedicate his life to improving memory care, launching his website http://www.journeys2remember.com. Since then he has worked two full-time jobs helping families care for loved ones with cognitive deficits, while simultaneously becoming more involved with his community running the Ultimate Sports Program, an inclusive youth sports program that offers athletic opportunities to kids, regardless of their disabilities.
