2012 Hydrogen Student Design Contest Theme Announced

Registration open for university students worldwide to design a combined heat, hydrogen and power system for their campus
"Each year, the Contest taps into the creativity and problem solving skills of today’s students to design a hydrogen and fuel cell system that will improve the world we live in," said Jeff Serfass, President of the Hydrogen Education Foundation. "This school year, we’re excited to see how students use renewable biogas to create heat, hydrogen and electricity in an ultra efficient design. We expect an impressive group of top universities and students from around the world to rise to this year’s challenge."
Through the Contest, student teams will demonstrate their talents in engineering, architecture, marketing, and entrepreneurship. In previous years, teams have designed fueling stations, airport systems, and green buildings—all using hydrogen. Last year, the Contest attracted 47 teams from 17 countries and five continents, including seven teams from the top 20 engineering schools in the U.S.
In addition to the U.S. Department of Energy, this year’s Contest is supported by the International Association for Hydrogen Energy (IAHE), which will publish the winning entries in a scientific journal, and the World Hydrogen Energy Conference 2012 (WHEC2012).
The Grand Prize Winning team will receive an expenses-paid trip to present their winning entry to hundreds of industry professionals in a session at WHEC2012 in Toronto, Canada. A full description of prize packages can be found online at www.HydrogenContest.org
Registration for the Contest is open until November 1, 2011 and official rules and guidelines for the Contest are available on the website.
