New Yoga Program Blends Health, Fitness and the Outdoors

BOULDER, CO – September 13, 2011. A sun salutation is much more real and alive when done outdoors under the early morning glow of the Flatirons. From their lofty perch atop Scott Carpenter Park, the boot camp folks at Fitness For Living provides such an opportunity at their new PowerFit Yoga Camps. After a year of planning, they have brought this innovative open-air yoga program to Boulder. The 5-week camps meet 2 mornings a week with 3 class times to choose from.

PowerFit Yoga is a unique blend of yoga and conditioning interwoven into a mind-calming, body-challenging and spirit-soaring experience. Based on a flowing Vinyasa-style yoga, PowerFit Yoga incorporates the best principles yoga, Pilates and sports conditioning. Each class is different and is appropriate for the first-timer and experienced yoga practitioner alike.

The flowing yoga sequences often include dumbbells and deeper and longer held poses to test and condition one’s cardio, strength, core, balance and range of motion - all seamlessly done with mindfulness, breath and intention. This energetic, fitness-based approach to yoga is ideal for people who want to lose weight, reduce stress, improve back health or simply increase overall health and well-being.

PowerFit Yoga’s Tuesday/Thursday schedule was designed to complement and alternate with the company’s Monday/Wednesday/Friday Fitness Boot Camps, creating a 5-day-a-week total health transformation program. Those who have opted for this powerful combo-package have seen tremendous results. One such five-day participant, Brent Zurek, lost 16 pounds and comments, “I'm getting up and down the trails on my mountain bike faster than I have ever before. I also feel more energized throughout the day. My flexibility has certainly increased and I feel more energized throughout the day. Also, my balance has improved and my core is much stronger than it was before.”

Fitness For Living Director, David Clair, emphasizes that PowerFit Yoga goes far beyond the outdoor classroom. “Throughout the five weeks we encourage a more healthful and balanced lifestyle. Participants are given meal plans and recipes to follow, and practical tips on sensible eating, portion control, healthy snacking and behavior modification.”

Fitness For Living’s PowerFit Yoga Camps are held outdoors April – October and indoors November – March. Upcoming sessions are September 26 – October 28 and October 31 – December 7. Classes meet on Tuesday and Thursday for one hour at 6:00 a.m., 7:15 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Childcare is available enabling mothers with young children to participate.
