Press release from: New Composite Partners

Stillwater, MN, December 4th, 2019-- SelfEco compostable drinkware is a premium line of eco-friendly 100% compostable PLA caterware products that are made in the United States. The line was developed to provide alternative solutions to the extensive waste generated from single-use products, which are often discarded from food service industries like restaurants, caterers and private events throughout the world. All SelfEco products are tree-free, petroleum-free, BPA-free, and BPI certified.

Unlike traditional single use disposable cups on the market, SelfEco's compostable drinkware is produced using a biopolymer called PLA (polylactic acid). PLA is made from starchy renewable plants like corn, which is grown widely in the United States. Starches from these materials are processed into a biopolymer that looks, acts, and performs like traditional petroleum-based plastics without the harmful effects to the environment.
Most plastics are derived from petroleum, or oil. Oil is used widely and is not renewable. The oil reserves will eventually be depleted. It's also a resource that comes with a lot of negative environmental and social impacts. SelfEco's American made, corn derived PLA products give American and Canadian consumers the ability to choose products made from renewable resources, like plants, instead of oil. Plants can be grown again and again, unlike oil. Composting is an opportunity to divert waste that would otherwise be disposed of in a landfill -- and by doing so, creating valuable nutrients for the soil that helps new plants grow stronger.
In the growing bioplastics industry, it is easy for consumers to become confused by buzzwords and new protocol around what to do with products when their use is through. While bioplastics are in whole or in part from renewable sources, not all bioplastics are compostable. SelfEco utilizes 100% PLA to avoid any confusion around products disposal, as it is fully compostable in commercial compost facilities. PLA is commercially available with its cost and performance competitive with petroleum-based packaging materials and fiber. SelfEco uses PLA because it is versatile, compostable, and most importantly, not petroleum-based. All SelfEco products are made from food safe PLA. The use of American made PLA provides an improved environmental footprint by limiting fossil fuel demand and shorter shipping distances from raw material to manufacturer to end users in America and Canada. The use of PLA also offers more sustainable post consumer and commercial disposal options, all while benefiting the American farmer, making SelfEco compostable drinkware good for the environment and the supply chain.

About SelfEco: SelfEco was created by Danny Mishek, a 3rd generation manufacturer. The intention was to capitalize on past knowledge and technology to produce products that are Earth-friendly and sustainable. Mishek states, "SelfEco's ultimate goal is to create things differently than previous generations. We want to be aware of our environment and the precious gifts that Earth supplies us with. To mindfully manufacture with the intent to compost, recycle or reuse our products gives us great pride."

These sustainable materials have been around for years. Very few people, including manufacturers, have made it a priority to creatively produce and sell products in a mainstream fashion. SelfEco is different and is proud to be a leader in the use of plant-based materials for all of our products. Being green is no longer a thought of the past. It is here today and will be here tomorrow. SelfEco has incorporated traditional manufacturing with forward thinking and processing to create a revolution in how green products are purchased, utilized and disposed of.
